Where can I serve?

Girdwood Chapel understands the importance of its role in the community and seeks to be a visible representation of the love shown to humanity by Christ. We are always looking for ways to better serve the community and the people of Girdwood, the people and communities of Alaska, and beyond our comfortable borders. Church members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as cleaning the church, to preparing the church bulletins.  Here is how you can learn, serve, and grow at this church.

Small Groups

Often, small groups of people are better able to interact and learn about a topic than larger groups are. For that reason, our church has small Bible studies held in member homes. The size of the group is anywhere from six to twelve people. At a time designated by your group leader you can participate in the small group study.

Youth Ministry

Each Sunday morning, children get to participate in their own classes. Bible lessons are taught in such a way that every child gets to participate and learn. Each of the class teachers is carefully screened and thoroughly trained in children’s instruction. The youth ministry of our church is recognized for their meaningful interaction with kids.

Young Adults

Life can get complicated once you cross that nebulous threshold into adulthood. There are complicated decisions. Bigger stakes. Serious relationships. And a whole lot more decisions. The young adult group of our church provides a welcoming atmosphere for teens and young adults.

Women’s Group

Women’s groups give the ladies in our church family special times of interaction. Our women’s group are times of Bible study, prayer (and, of course, food). These groups provide a refreshing discipleship opportunity for the women in the church. Primary Contact is Terry Sherwood (907) 441-9809

Men’s Group

Accountability among men is an act of integrity. Accountability is designed to protect, encourage, and develop men of all ages. Accountability groups consist of three men each. Accountability groups meet together as their schedules allow and keep in touch by email or phone.

Food Pantry

Girdwood Chapel is thrilled to be part of the Food Bank of Alaska to help provide food for those in need of assistance. The Girdwood Food Pantry has become a much needed mission in Girdwood. Primary Contact is Sheila Denuptis (907) 240-4597 and Margie Hamilton.

Music

Do you have a musical talent, if so, we would love to have you join our music team. Whether you play an instrument or love singing, God-honoring worship is something we strive for. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of our church, using their talents and gifts to glorify God.

Hospitality and Church Care

We can always use volunteers to welcome guests and help with cleaning and small improvement projects to the Chapel.

Prayer Teams

Prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer moves the hand of God. Our Church is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty. Each Sunday, during the morning service, a team of volunteers is praying for the ministry of the Word. Throughout the week, volunteers from our Prayer Warriors team pray for their pastor, a list of church members, any special requests, and missionary prayer needs.
